How do I use sascu Cardwise?

How to use this credit union Cardwise: freeze a card, set limits, add alerts, and manage every sascu card from the app.

Getting Started with Banking: Cardwise

Step 1: Open Cardwise

Open the sascu app, log in, and you will find Cardwise as the second tile on the home screen.

Cardwise is baked into the sascu mobile app. Tap the Cardwise tile and the screen lists all your sascu debit and credit cards with a live status - active, frozen, or limited.

If Cardwise does not show, update the app from Google Play or the App Store; the feature ships with version 8.2 and later.

Step 2: Freeze and Unfreeze a Card

Tap the card, tap Freeze, confirm; the card stops working instantly, and Unfreeze is equally fast.

The freeze takes effect within seconds - both online and at terminals. It stays on until you unfreeze, so a misplaced card cannot be used. Unfreezing requires that you remain logged in, which blocks a lost-phone scenario from re-enabling the card.

Balance and transactions remain fully visible while frozen, and pre-authorized payments continue to process under normal terms.

Step 3: Set Limits and Alerts

Limits per transaction, per week, or per merchant type are set in Limit Settings.

Limits apply instantly and protect realistically: a $20 ceiling on the coffee shop category, a $500 cap on card-not-present purchases, or a $2,000 weekly cash limit. When a transaction hits the rule, the app asks you to approve or decline.

  1. Open Cardwise and select a card
  2. Tap Limit Settings
  3. Edit transaction, weekly, or category limits
  4. Toggle alert type: every purchase / large / foreign
  5. Save - changes apply in seconds

Key facts at a glance

Four numbers decide most of this decision, and one caveat should always be kept in view.

Cardwise limits do NOT apply to subscriptions that were pre-authorized before the limit was set. We originally required a web login to change limits; moving the controls into the app doubled daily management sessions.

The official methodology is detailed in the sascu overview.

In-app data shows a freeze takes 9 seconds from app open, and unfreeze is blocked outside your own verified session.
